Lok Sabha Election 2019 – Useful tips given in “Cyber Security” booklet

Mumbai, Apr 9: The Election Commission, candidates and various political parties are using cyber world on a large scale. Very useful tips are given regarding election information security, secured password, emails, care to be taken while using social media, fake news, haw to save from mischievous propaganda using ‘spear fishing scams’ in a booklet published by Maharashtra Cyber office. The booklet titled ‘Cyber Security’ was released on Monday.

To ease out the election process the commission is encouraging use of modern technology, new apps etc. on a large scale. Candidates and political parties too have started using social media for campaigning. Maharashtra Cyber has taken initiative to stop misuse of social media and to keep election process technically secured. All the 48 parliamentary constituencies in the state are provided with Cyber Security booklet in Marathi, Hindi, English, Gujarati and Urdu languages, said Special IGP Brijesh Singh.

The booklet contains instructions about public awareness on social media news, trolling, sponsored information, fake apps and websites and care to be taken while using personal and outside instruments.

The booklet Cyber Security prepared by Maharashtra Cyber Security project was released by the Chief Election Officer and Additional Chief Secretary Ashwani Kumar. Additional CEO Dilip Shinde, Asstt CEO Anil Valvi, Director (Information) Suresh Vandile, SP Maharashtra Cyber Dr Balsingh Rajpur and ZSachin Pandkar, Dy CEO Shirish Mohod were present on this occasion.

The booklet contains important tips to judge the fake news. Instructions are given to mark at the right corner of the face book post “this is a fake news story” and ‘Whatsapp checkpoing tipline’ to ascertain the veracity of whatsapp news or information. Important tips are given to remain vigilant about fake news, rumours, and provocative matters on whatsapp.

A list of 42 apps marked dangerous by the government of India has been published. Information about c-VIGIL app of the election commission, other authorized apps, websites, and important nodal organizations is given in this booklet. This booklet is prepared by Maharashtra Cyber office in association with chief election officers of the state.
