Mahabaleshwar, 7th July 2026: Tourists planning a monsoon getaway to Mahabaleshwar, Panchgani or other destinations in Satara district will have to rethink their plans. In view of incessant rainfall and the growing risk of rain-related incidents, the Satara district administration has ordered the closure of all tourist attractions until further notice.

The move comes after the district witnessed heavy rainfall over the past few days, raising concerns over landslides, overflowing water bodies, slippery terrain and unsafe road conditions. With thousands of visitors expected during the monsoon season, authorities have decided to restrict access to tourist destinations to prevent any untoward incidents.

The order covers all major tourist locations in the district, including Mahabaleshwar, Panchgani, Kaas Plateau, Thoseghar Waterfall, Sajjangad Fort, Vasota Fort and several other viewpoints and waterfalls that see a spike in footfall during the rains.

Police personnel and officials have been deployed at key entry points and tourist locations to ensure the restrictions are followed. Visitors have been urged not to attempt entry into closed areas, while residents have also been advised to stay away from rivers, waterfalls and other vulnerable locations until weather conditions improve.

The administration said the restrictions will remain in force until further notice and appealed to tourists to check official advisories before travelling to Satara district. The decision comes as the region continues to receive heavy rainfall, with more showers expected over the coming days.
