Solapur, 26th June 2022: As per the order of the Supreme Court, audio recording with CCTV cameras will be introduced in police stations. Such facilities are being set up in seven police stations in Solapur city.

Therefore, the senior officers will be able to verify the facts of the communication and incidents between the officers and the complainants, the police and the accused in the police station. It is believed that this new technology will reduce the rate of bribery and mistreatment of people.

After coming to the police station to lodge a complaint, the police often demand money, use foul language, do not behave properly, unnecessary beating by the police, did not accept a complaint or did not file a complaint as the complainant said. Although the allegations are true, the facts do not come to light as there is no evidence during the interrogation. Sometimes the police department has to bear the stigma of false accusations too. Often there were arguments between the police and the complainant.

As a solution to this, the police stations in the city will now have the facility of audio recording in CCTV cameras. This will stop bribery or solicitation of money, senior officials said. Allegations that the accused died due to the beating in the police station are also made. This should not be the case.

There will be a total of seven police stations with CCTV installed in Solapur. In order to reduce the stress on the police stations and to facilitate the citizens, 35 police outposts were set up in the city.

However, the then Commissioner of Police Ankush Shinde had ordered to close all the outposts and lodge complaints from the police station itself. Police outposts have been closed since then. The decision will be taken only when there is a need to start police outposts, said Commissioner of Police Rajendra Mane.

“CCTV camera will be installed in each of the seven police stations in the city by a private agency. There will be movement and voice recording inside the police station. So, it is going to help to understand the facts of the allegation”, Mane said.
