Maharashtra Government Transfers 48,600 sq m Land in Yerawada to PMRDA for Pune Metro Line-3
Pune, 18th October 2025: To accelerate the ambitious Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro Line-3 project, the Maharashtra government has approved the permanent transfer of 48,600 sq m of government land in Yerawada to the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). The decision was taken on the initiative of Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule and aims to support the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) required for the metro project.
The transferred land spans multiple city survey numbers in Yerawada: 14,880 sq m in City Survey 2201, 15,660.1 sq m in City Survey 2216, and 15,954 sq m in City Survey 2220. This transfer has been made as an alternative site in exchange for 10 hectares 60 R of land in Bhamburda.
The government has imposed several conditions on the transfer. As per the Maharashtra Land Revenue Act, 1966, and the Rules, 1971, the land has been handed over free and in permanent possession. PMRDA will hold the land as Occupier Class-2. Any income generated from commercial development of the land will be used exclusively for the state government’s Viability Gap Fund.
Additionally, the Urban Development Department has been instructed to change the reservation of the education complex on City Survey 2220 at the earliest. The land must be used solely for the metro project, and any violation of the conditions could result in the government reclaiming the property. Before the transfer, the Pune District Collector is required to obtain a written undertaking from PMRDA confirming compliance with the conditions.
Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated that the decision marks a milestone in the development of Pune Metro and will significantly enhance the efficiency of the city’s transport system.
