Maharashtra Health Dept Starts Training Doctors For COVID Vaccination

Pune, December 15, 2020: Gearing up for administering the much-awaited COVID-19 vaccines to the public, the Maharashtra health department held an online training for municipal and district doctors on Monday. The training involved instructions on registration of vaccination beneficiaries on the Co-Win app, identification and storage of vaccination sites, how to vaccinate in compliance with sanitisers, masks and safety rules, what to do in case of any side effects, and other vaccination schedules.

Many countries have allowed giving a shot of the COVID vaccine in case of any emergency. Similarly, the administrations in India have too sought permission for facilitating COVID-19 vaccines manufactured by various institutes in case of emergency. Proper planning for vaccination has begun in the country.

In the first phase, health workers will be vaccinated. For this, vaccination preparation training was conducted at the national level on December 8-9 by the central government’s health department. It was attended by state immunisation officials, representatives of the World Health Organization, UNICEF, UNDP. These representatives are now imparting training to Pune Municipal Corporation, other municipal corporations in the state and district level doctors and vaccination officers, said the State Immunisation Officer, DN Patil.

Although it is yet to be decided which vaccine will be accepted to be administered to the public in India, the state health department has started to impart two days of training to municipal and district level doctors and vaccination officers to inform them about the preparations for vaccination. The trainees in this training program will then train medical officers, ward officers, ASHA, Anganwadi staff of local bodies. The training process will be completed in the next two weeks, informed Patil.
