Maharashtra: Soon proposal to waive tuition fee for resident doctors serving during COVID-19 period, says Medical Education Minister Amit Deshmukh
Mumbai, 11 August 2021: For the last one and a half years, resident doctors studying in medical postgraduate courses across Maharashtra have been working day and night amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Therefore, the State Medical Education Department has proposed to waive tuition fees for these resident doctors, informed State Medical Education Minister Amit Deshmukh.
“The government is also positive about providing incentives and allowances to these doctors,” Deshmukh said.
Maharashtra Medical Education Amit Deshmukh held a meeting with the members of the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (Central MARD) recently.
Director of Medical Education Dr Dilip Mhaisekar, President of Central MARD Dr Dnyaneshwar Dhoble-Patil, Vice President Dr Pranab Jadhav, General Secretary Dr Dhanraj Geete, Additional General Secretary Dr Akshay Chawre, State Coordinator Dr Nikhil Kamble, and Joint Secretary Chetankumar Adrat was present during the meeting.
“For the last one and a half years, the resident doctors in has been working day and night to bring the COVID-19 situation under control. Therefore, the State Medical Education Department is positive about the waiver of tuition fees and incentive allowances to these doctors and a proposal regarding this will be prepared soon. The medical director will then submit the proposal to the State Finance Department for approval,” Deshmukh said.
“Many students live away from home and study in hotels. The condition of hostels should be good at such times. To ensure that, the medical education director will obtain information regarding the condition of the hostels and resolve any problems that arise. The government will focus on improving the infrastructure of the hostels,” the state medical education minister added.
