Maharashtra to Conduct TET Exam Twice a Year for Next Two Years; Aadhaar Verification to Be Made Mandatory
Pune, 22nd November 2025: The Maharashtra State Examination Council has announced that the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), a mandatory qualification for teachers of Classes 1 to 8, will now be conducted twice a year for the next two years. The decision aligns the TET with the model followed by national-level exams like JEE, where candidates get multiple attempts.
Examination Council Chairman Dr. Nandkumar Bedse shared the details during a press conference, stating that a total of four TET exams will be conducted over the next two years.
“The aim is to give teachers adequate opportunities to clear the mandatory examination within the two-year deadline set by the Supreme Court,” Dr. Bedse said.
The Supreme Court has ruled that all teachers teaching in Classes 1 to 8 must pass the TET, except those who have only five years of service left. All others are required to clear the exam within two years.
To facilitate this, the State Examination Council will conduct two exams each year. The first TET of 2025 will be held on Sunday, November 23, followed by the next one six months later. Planning is also underway to hold the first TET of 2026 in May–June.
Aadhaar Verification for Fair Exams
In a move aimed at preventing malpractices, the council will now authenticate the identity of TET candidates through Aadhaar. The system will verify examinees during registration and at exam centres, ensuring transparency and reducing the chances of impersonation or fraud.
This Aadhaar-based verification mechanism is expected to be operational from next year’s TET cycle.
DG Locker Facility for Certificates
Dr. Bedse also announced that the State Examination Council will make all certificates related to the Maharashtra TET, scholarship examinations, and the Teacher Aptitude and Intelligence Test (TAIT) available on DigiLocker.
This will allow candidates to access all official certificates in one secure digital location.
Officials stated that these reforms aim to streamline the examination process, curb irregularities, and provide teachers with more flexibility to meet certification requirements within the mandated timeline.
