Man Caught For Smuggling 800 Gram Gold Ornaments At Pune Airport, Had Booked Tickets On Fake Adhaar Cards

Viman Nagar, 18th December 2021: The Customs officials at Pune Airport nabbed a man for allegedly smuggling 800 grams gold ornaments from Dubai. An FIR was registered against him at Vimantal police station, Pune city police, after it was found that he had booked flight tickets based on a fake Adhaar card.

The accused have been identified as Abdul Rafiq (62) of Chennai. A complaint has been lodged by Customs Superintendent Vrinda Jayant Sinha.

According to police, the accused Rafiq and Fatima alias and Hanifa Shah (40) of Chennai arrived at Pune airport on December 16 on a domestic flight from Chennai. A check at the airport revealed that they had a large amount of gold on body. They were detained and questioned.

Meanwhile, police checked the footage of the duo at the Chennai airport. At that time, they did not have any gold ornaments on their bodies. However, when he got off the flight at Pune airport, he had gold ornaments on his body. The smuggled gold was brought by a ‘courier’ on a flight from Dubai to Chennai. The person who brings the smuggled gold is called a courier. The gold was hidden in seat number 4 on that flight. The accused booked seat number four after the same flight became domestic. The flight was supposed to go to Bengaluru, but for some reason, it was diverted to Pune airport, where the smuggling came to light.
