Koregaon Park, 13th February 2023: A man from Hyderabad has been arrested for allegedly making a hoax call to the Google India office in Mumbai on the previous day, claiming that a bomb had been planted in the Google India office in Pune.

Following a complaint from the security supervisor, an FIR was registered at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) police station in Mumbai. According to police reports, the caller identified himself as Panyam Babu Shivanand of Hyderabad and asked for “Pune office” twice before claiming to be the brother of Vijayprasad Babu, the GM of Google’s office. He then proceeded to state that a bomb had been planted in the Pune office. He had called 7.54 pm on Sunday.

In his statement, security supervisor Dilip Tambe stated that the caller had also abused him. Tambe alerted security officer Anirudh Deshpande at Google’s Pune office, who immediately informed the local Mundhwa police station as the Google office is located in the Poonawalla Fincorp building on Mundhwa-Koregaon Park Road.

Upon receiving the alert, the police along with a team from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) immediately scanned the building, but found nothing suspicious. The FIR was subsequently registered against Shivanand for the hoax call.

Making hoax calls about bomb threats is a serious offense that can cause panic and disruption, and the authorities are taking it very seriously.
