Pune, 26th November 2024: The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has begun implementing mandatory helmet regulations for employees commuting to government offices on two-wheelers. From Monday (25th November), RTO teams were deployed outside various government offices to inspect compliance and promote awareness about the importance of wearing helmets.

The initiative follows a directive from the State Transport Department in adherence to court orders, making helmets compulsory for two-wheeler riders. Saurabh Rao, the Divisional Commissioner has reinforced the rule by mandating helmet usage for all employees traveling to government offices. He also issued a warning of strict action against violators.

Initially, the focus is on raising awareness among employees, with action already initiated against those arriving at offices without helmets. In the next phase, enforcement will extend to the public visiting government offices for various services.

As part of the implementation, helmet inspections are now being conducted outside government offices. This initiative traces back to a circular issued two years ago by then-State Transport Commissioner Dr. Avinash Dhakne. The circular emphasized strict action against any two-wheeler rider, whether a government employee or citizen, arriving at government offices without a helmet. Despite the earlier directive, it was not fully enforced until now.
