Pune, 7th May 2025: In response to heightened security concerns following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam and escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, a nationwide mock drill was conducted on Wednesday. As part of this initiative, a coordinated emergency preparedness drill was carried out at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) headquarters, involving PMC staff and personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

The drill aimed to educate citizens and municipal employees on how to respond during a wartime emergency or terrorist attack. Demonstrations included evacuation procedures, emergency medical response, and safety protocols during potential bomb threats or air raids.

The exercise began with the controlled bursting of four firecrackers to simulate a bomb blast scenario. Immediately, PMC employees and officials evacuated the building as part of the drill. Dummy casualties were transported by ambulance to simulate emergency medical response, and NDRF personnel conducted thorough checks of the premises to ensure it was safe before declaring the mock scenario concluded.

This safety simulation comes in the wake of a brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, where 26 tourists were killed. Eyewitness accounts suggest the attackers selectively targeted victims based on their religion, sparking nationwide outrage and demands for a strong government response.

India today conducted ‘Operation Sindoor’ by targeting terrorist hideouts in nine places in Pakistan. Therefore, mock drills have become important for the safety of citizens.
