NASA Ventures into the Streaming World with Launch of NASA+ Later This Year
Global, 29th July 2023: NASA, the renowned government space agency, is venturing into the world of streaming services with the launch of its new platform, NASA+. This ad-free and no-cost streaming service is set to debut later this year, offering viewers live coverage of upcoming launches, exclusive documentaries, and original series focused on space exploration and discoveries.
In a recent statement, Marc Etkind, NASA’s associate administrator of communications, expressed the agency’s excitement about NASA+, stating, “We’re putting space on demand and at your fingertips with NASA’s new streaming platform. Transforming our digital presence will help us better tell the stories of how NASA explores the unknown in air and space, inspires through discovery, and innovates for the benefit of humanity.”
NASA+ will be easily accessible through the NASA app on iOS and Android mobile and tablet devices, as well as on popular streaming media players like Roku, Apple TV, and Fire TV. Additionally, the platform will be available through NASA’s new beta website, which aims to provide a more user-friendly experience for information on the agency’s missions, research, climate data, and Artemis updates.
The beta website will offer a topic-driven experience, featuring a common search engine and integrated navigation. Currently, NASA’s video content and launch streams are primarily available on NASA TV, running a 24/7 slate of programming on both the NASA website and YouTube. However, with the introduction of NASA+, the agency seeks to create a dedicated space for viewers to access its content in a more streamlined and modernized manner.
Jeff Seaton, NASA’s Chief Information Officer, highlighted the agency’s objectives in enhancing its online presence and public engagement. He stated that modernizing the agency’s main websites and streamlining content accessibility are the initial steps in making NASA’s valuable information “more accessible, discoverable, and secure.”
While specific details about the streaming service’s interface remain undisclosed, it is expected that NASA will incorporate elements similar to other popular streaming platforms. As NASA focuses on bringing its content to a wider audience through modernization, NASA+ could become a valuable resource for space enthusiasts and anyone interested in the groundbreaking discoveries and explorations happening beyond Earth’s atmosphere.
