Motihari (Bihar), June 22, 2020: Recently Nepal’s Parliament passed a Constitution Amendment bill which included 3 Indian territories in their map. They have laid claims over the key areas of Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura along the Indian border.
In a recent development, Nepalese authorities prevented Bihar Water Resources Department (WRD) workers from carrying out construction work at an embankment on Lal Bakeya River in the Dhaka block of East Champaran district in Bihar. The District Magistrate (DM) has reported the matter to the Union Home Ministry, Government of Bihar and the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.
The river Lal Bakeya originates in the foothills of Nepal and flows through the district in a southern direction forming the eastern boundary of the district with Sitamarhi before meeting river Bagmati near the village Khori Pakar.
Authorities reported that the embankment had been constructed long back over the river. Previously, they had never faced any kind of objection from the Government of Nepal. The authorities also said that they tried to resolve the matter locally but the efforts were unsuccessful.
DM Shirshat Kapil Ashok told the media that the fortification of embankment in 400 metres, out of a 2.5 Km-long stretch, has not been done. The WRD department has built the embankment till the last point of the border, but suddenly Nepalese authorities are raising objections over it.
