Nicobar Island Hit By Earthquake Of 5.0 Magnitude; No Casualties Reported

New Delhi, 6th March 2023: The National Center for Seismology (NCS) informed that an earthquake with a 5.0 Richter scale rating occurred today (March 6) in the Nicobar Islands region. The earthquake struck at approximately 5:07 am.

There were no reports of fatalities or property damage.

The earthquake, which the National Center for Seismology (NCS) calculates to have occurred at a depth of 10 km, shook the Nicobar Islands region.

The NCS tweeted, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 5.0, Occurred on 06-03-2023, 05:07:16 IST, Lat: 7.97 & Long: 91.65, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Nicobar islands region.”

An earlier 2.5-magnitude earthquake and two additional earthquakes struck Uttarkashi in the early hours of Sunday (March 5), according to a district disaster management official.

The first earthquake, which occurred at roughly 12.45 in the morning, had its epicenter near the Siror forest in the district’s Bhatwari area.
