Percentage of rural students owning smartphones increased from 36 to 62 in two years: Economic Survey

New Delhi, January 30, 2021: The government is all set to fasten its campaign of providing quality education to all the students across the country. The recent economic survey conducted by the government reveals that India will be the world’s largest youth population in the next decade.

Thus in this situation, it is important to provide quality education for everyone. Along with this, due to the manner in which online education became popular during the lockdown, it is expected many educational disparities will be reduced through it.

In the Economic Survey, the steps taken on online education have been most appreciated. Under this, about 34 crore students have been taught sitting at home during the lockdown. This also helped to bridge the digital divide between students studying in urban and rural areas. The situation was that before lockdown, only 36 percent of students had smartphones, while after that, it was present with 62 percent of students.

Along with this, educational discrimination through online education has also ended. Children were taught on the same platform through the same teacher. For this, the Center had also released Rs 818 crore to all the states.

According to the Economic Survey 2020-21, India will have the largest youth population in the world by the next decade. Therefore, to prepare the future of the country, the ability to provide high-quality education for these youth is to be developed. According to the survey, India has achieved a literacy rate of 96 percent at the primary school level.

According to the Economic Survey 2020-21, only 2.4 percent of the workers aged 15 to 59 have received vocational/technical training, and 8.9 percent of the others have received informal training. Of these 8.9 percent workers, 3.3 percent received on-the-job training, 2.5 percent self-training and 2.1 percent hereditary, and one percent received training from other sources.
