New Delhi, February 5, 2021: Pfizer, the leading pharmaceutical company, said on Friday that it has decided to withdraw its application to approve the emergency use of its Covid-19 vaccine in India. Pfizer is the first pharmaceutical company that has asked the Controller General of India (DCGI) to approve the emergency use of their Covid-19 vaccine. Earlier, it had been approved in Britain and Bahrain.
“Pfizer attended a meeting of the expert committee of the Indian Drug Controller General on February 3 on the subject of approving the emergency use of its Covid-19 vaccine,” a company spokesperson said. Based on the discussion and its understanding in the meeting, the company has decided to withdraw its application.
As stated, Pfizer will be in touch with DGCI and will apply again for approval after additional information. The company filed this application in December 2020.
