Pimpri Chinchwad: Ex-Army Men To Be Deployed At 85 Crowded Places To Check People Without Mask

Pimpri-Chinchwad, 27 February 2021: As the number of corona patients in Pimpri-Chinchwad city is increasing day by day, the municipal administration has come into ‘action mode’.

Along with strict measures, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is taking the help of social organizations, ex-army men among others to ‘discipline’ unruly citizens from Monday, March 1.

The measures being taken by the Municipal Corporation against the backdrop of an increasing number of corona patients in the city were announced at a press conference on Friday. PCMC Additional Commissioner Ajit Pawar, Assistant Commissioner of Police Shrikant Disale, Additional Health Officer Dr Pawan Salve were also present on the occasion.

Additional Commissioner Ajit Pawar said that the PCMC has taken punitive action against 1251 people who were found without masks between February 19 and 25 and recovered a fine of Rs 6,25,500 from them. So far, action has been taken against 32,220 citizens and a fine of Rs 1,64,60,000 has been recovered from them.

There are three teams of traffic police, health officers and local police station. Through these teams, the action is being taken against those who walk or drive around the city without wearing masks, spit on the streets. They also check establishments/hotels to ensure that social distancing norms are being followed.

85 crowded places in the city have been marked by the Municipal Corporation which will be patrolled by squads and inspection squads. From Monday, 50 ex-army men and women of the Durga Brigade will assist the administration.

Another containment zone has been added in the city and now the number of containment zones in the city has increased to 20. So far, A, B, C, E and H ward areas of the city have recorded the highest number of Coronavirus disease (COVID19) patients to date.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Shrikant Disale said cases will be registered against people who will engage in an unnecessary argument with the staff during the action.
