PMC Elections 2026: Dr Nivedita Ekbote Highlights Education-Centric Development Plan in Shivajinagar
Shivajinagar, 9th January 2026: BJP candidate from Ward No. 12 (Chhatrapati Shivajinagar–Model Colony), Principal Dr Nivedita Gajanan Ekbote, has said she is committed to strengthening the city’s education system by ensuring quality and affordable education for students from all sections of society through the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
Addressing residents during her campaign, Dr Ekbote said her focus would go beyond primary and secondary education to include professional courses such as engineering, pharmacy and management. She said efforts would be made to establish civic-run professional colleges on the lines of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College, aimed at benefiting students from economically weaker sections.
She also underlined the need to improve facilities for students coming to Pune from other regions for education. “Dedicated hostel complexes funded by the municipal corporation can help address issues related to accommodation and meals,” she said.
Dr Ekbote said her experience with the Progressive Education Society would be leveraged to upgrade municipal schools. She added that modern infrastructure, free school supplies and an expanded scholarship system would be among her key priorities. She also assured that the 1,000-capacity City Library, initiated by former corporator Dr Jyotsna Ekbote, would be completed.
Dr Ekbote outlined her vision during a padyatra held in areas including Vishrambaug, Sambhaji Society, Jangli Maharaj Society, the Shivajinagar Tofkhana area and the Shri Saibaba Temple vicinity. Party workers and leaders from alliance parties participated in large numbers.
