Pimpri Chinchwad, 9th April 2025: A technical failure in the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company (MahaTransco) system disrupted power supply in multiple areas of Pimpri Chinchwad on Wednesday, with Hinjawadi’s IT sector and parts of Pimple Saudagar, Sangvi, and Rahatani experiencing outages.

According to officials, the issue began around midnight at the 132 KV extra-high voltage Rahatani substation, where smoke was seen emanating from a 50 MVA capacity current transformer. Upon inspection, engineers determined the transformer had to be replaced immediately. The repair work required a shutdown of MSEDCL’s 22 KV power lines, leading to a power deficit of 22 MW.

As a result, cyclical load-shedding was implemented between 12:03 AM and 2:58 AM across Pimple Saudagar, Sangvi, Rahatani, Kalewadi, Vishalnagar, and Kaspatevasti, lasting anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes in each area. Officials cited increased night-time electricity demand as a challenge in managing the shortfall through alternative sources.

In a separate incident later in the day, at around 12:33 PM, a tripping occurred in MahaTransco’s 220 KV Kandalgaon tower line, causing a major disruption. Thirteen 33 KV MSEDCL feeder lines were affected, resulting in a 37-minute blackout for nearly 66,200 residential, commercial, and industrial consumers in Hinjawadi and Wakad. Notably, 200 IT industries in Hinjawadi were impacted during the outage.

Power was fully restored by 1:10 PM, and MahaTransco has initiated investigations into the cause of the tripping and equipment failure. Maintenance and load-balancing operations are ongoing to prevent further disruptions.
