Budhwar Peth, 24th May 2026: The Pune Police have crossed the 100-mark in their crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi nationals, with six more Bangladeshi women allegedly residing illegally in India being detained during a late-night combing operation in Budhwar Peth.

According to police, a total of 103 illegal Bangladeshi nationals have now been apprehended within 11 months under the jurisdiction of Zone 1.

The joint operation was carried out by teams from Faraskhana Police Station and Khadak Police Station following specific intelligence inputs.

Police officials said the operation was conducted on Saturday night on the instructions of the Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar as part of a city-wide combing drive. Acting on confidential information received by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Krushikesh Rawale, police teams raided Sagar Building in Budhwar Peth and detained six women allegedly staying in the country without valid documents.

During preliminary interrogation, the detained women reportedly told police that they were brought to India on the promise of jobs in beauty parlours, tailoring units, and domestic work. However, after arriving in Budhwar Peth, they allegedly became involved in prostitution activities.

Police have launched a detailed investigation to identify the agents and networks involved in bringing the women into India illegally, the routes used to cross the border, and the manner in which identity and entry documents were arranged.
