Pune: 26 Foreign Nationals Detained in Kondhwa For Alleged Visa Overstay

Kondhwa, 16th September 2026: Police detained 26 foreign nationals allegedly staying illegally in Kondhwa even after the expiry of their visas. The action was taken during a joint search operation conducted by the local police and the special branch in the Kondhwa area.

The detained foreign nationals reportedly include citizens of Yemen and other Gulf countries. Police checked their passports, visas and documents related to their stay in Pune.

According to the investigation, some of the foreign nationals had entered India on student visas for education, while others had come on medical visas for treatment. Police found that they continued to stay in Kondhwa even after the validity of their visas had expired.

Police had also received information that some foreign nationals were staying in Kondhwa with their family members after arriving in Pune. Acting on the information, a joint team conducted checks in the area and detained the individuals.

Police are currently verifying the documents of all 26 detained foreign nationals. Officials are also contacting the respective embassies regarding arrangements to send them back to their home countries.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone) Prashant Amritkar said the process of contacting the concerned embassies and repatriating the foreign nationals had been initiated.
