Pune: 55,956 Names Of Double Voters In 21 Assembly Constituencies Been Dropped From The Voting List
Pune, 17th August 2021: The names of 55,956 double voters in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and 21 assembly constituencies in the district have been dropped from the voter list. There are still 32,768 double voters and the process of deleting their names is going on, said an official from the district election branch.
During Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections held in the year 2019, the voter turnout was low in the Pune district. It is said that the turnout dropped due to the higher number of duplicates and similar names in the voter list. Therefore, the district administration decided to remove the double names from the voter list. The voter list of the district was updated in January this year. Accordingly, there are 78.87 lakh voters in 21 assembly constituencies of the district. Out of which 88, 724 were double voters. The names of 55, 916 voters have been dropped.
Meanwhile, out of ten rural constituencies, 711 names from Junnar constituency, 1151 from Ambegaon, 586 from Khed Alandi, 6263 from Shirur, 2418 from Daund, 1010 from Indapur, 3559 from Baramati, 1925 from Purandar, 3758 from Bhor 2015 and 3758 from Maval constituency were omitted.
Out of the three constituencies in Pimpri-Chinchwad, 4320 names in Chinchwad constituency, 3074 in Pimpri and 3476 in Bhosari have been omitted. Out of the eight assembly constituencies in Pune, 21,687 double voters have been excluded, informed Deputy District Election Officer Mrinalini Sawant.
