Pune Accident: Woman Dies After Container Truck Runs Over Scooter on Katraj–Kondhwa Road
Katraj, 15th December 2025: A 53-year-old woman lost her life after a container truck ran over her scooter on Katraj–Kondhwa Road on Monday morning, triggering questions over traffic management amid road diversions for a VIP event.
The accident occurred around 7.30 am near the diversion in front of Gagan Unnati Building on Katraj–Kondhwa Road. According to police, a Honda scooter ridden by Rama Kapade, a resident of the area and a teacher with JSPM, came under the rear wheels of a container truck bearing registration number TG 08 V 3323.
Kapade sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Bharati Hospital with the help of local residents. However, she succumbed to her injuries after being admitted, reportedly due to excessive bleeding.
Police personnel reached the spot soon after the incident. The container truck and its driver were taken into custody, and the vehicle was later moved to the side of the road to ease congestion.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav said traffic movement was restored after the truck was cleared from the road and police staff managed the situation on-site.
The accident took place amid traffic diversions on Kondhwa Road ahead of the unveiling of a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj by the Chief Minister later in the day. Roads had been diverted as part of the arrangements, leading to heavy congestion during peak morning hours.
Former corporator Vasant More alleged that poor planning and inadequate traffic management contributed to the fatality. “Due to road diversions and unfamiliar road layouts, Rama Kapade met with an accident. Because of severe traffic congestion, no help could reach her for nearly half an hour. She died due to excessive bleeding. Who is responsible for this?” he said.
Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident and assess whether traffic arrangements played a role in the delay in medical assistance.
