Pune: After Death Of Child In Swimming Pool, Lonavala Municipal Council Begins Survey Of Pools In Private Bungalows

Lonavla, 21st July 2022: After a two-year-old child lost his life in the swimming pool of a privately rented bungalow in Lonavala city, many questions have been raised through publicity about such private swimming pools and their safety regulations. Against this backdrop, Lonavla Municipal Council has now come into action mode.

In a meeting of municipal council officials on Wednesday (July 20), Lonavla Municipal Council chief Pandit Patil ordered to form different teams of municipal council officers and employees and survey the swimming pools built in bungalows and row houses in every part of the city in the next two days and submit a report whether it is authorised or unauthorised.

There is a big trend of renting out private bungalows to tourists in the city of Lonavla, which is famous for its tourism and as a cold place to hang out with the tourists. Most of the tourists who come here prefer such private bungalows over hotels. But even bungalows with a swimming pool are booked on priority and with more charges. Therefore, the owners of the bungalows who rent out the bungalows are creating a swimming pool by literally digging a hole wherever they get free space in the premises of their bungalow or row house with no safety standards being followed while making this.

There are hundreds, thousands of bungalows, and row houses with such illegal swimming pools in and around Lonavala city. But the interesting thing is that no data about this is available with the concerned administration. Also, the Municipal Council administration itself is unclear about the security standards in this regard.

In this background, Pandit Patil has decided to collect the data of all the swimming pools in the city and take action against unauthorised construction and bring clarity to the swimming pool construction rules. Construction done after an actual construction completion certificate is considered illegal. On this basis, if the data is collected by surveying the construction in the city, it will also help to come up with information about how many constructions are unauthorised along with the swimming pool.
