Pune: Ahead Of Monsoon, PMC Inspects Dangerous Walls; 33 Dilapidated Wada Demolished

Pune, 4th June 2021: In the rainy season, there is a possibility of a loss of life due to wall collapse. Against this backdrop, the building development department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has surveyed 300 places in the city and removed three labour camps. Four owners have been issued notices as the border walls have become dangerous.

Construction is underway at several places in the city, where labourers live in tin-shed houses along the boundary wall. In the rainy season, these walls become dangerous and fall on houses which cause fatalities. In Pune, such incidents have taken place in the past where many labourers and their families have died in their sleep.

The building development department of the municipal corporation had ordered inspection of all the parts of the city where there are labour camps. So far 300 places have been inspected. In this, three labour camps in dangerous places have been shifted. On the other hand, four boundary walls have become dangerous and a notice has been issued to the concerned landowners to remove them, informed Superintending Engineer Rajendra Raut.

Dangerous wada demolished

There are many old ‘wada’ in the central suburbs of the city. In the last one month, PMC has demolished 33 wada. Also, at present, there are five very dangerous forts in the city. There are 211 wada that could be dangerous if not repaired immediately, out of which 150 places have been repaired. Notices have been issued to 115 wada owners.
