Pune, 18th July 2023: Maharashtra State Bureau of Textbook Production and Curriculum Research Board (Balbharati), a division under the Maharashtra state government’s school education department, found itself embroiled in a shocking incident as an advertisement offering the sale of the Balbharati domain name appeared on Google.

This development immediately caught the attention of the education department, prompting swift action by Balbharati to investigate the matter.

The advertisement on Google revealed that the domain ‘balbharati.in’ of the government organization Balbharati, responsible for textbook production, printing, and curriculum research, was allegedly up for sale for the sum of two thousand US dollars.

The website ‘ebalbharti.in’ hosts the e-literature version of Balbharati’s textbooks. It serves as a platform where millions of students, thousands of parents, and teachers from the state access textbooks in PDF format for free.

‘balbharati.in’ is the official domain of Balbharati and was acquired in the year 2005-06. The process of renewing this domain for the next five years was completed in 2023. However, it appears that the domain has been tampered with.

“A technical report has been obtained, and legal action is being pursued. An initial online complaint has been registered, and the process of gathering information regarding the incident is currently underway. Appropriate legal action will be taken,” stated Krishna Kumar Patil, Director of Balbharti.

“The advertisement selling the official domain of ‘Balbharti’ currently circulating on the internet is fraudulent. Balbharati is taking necessary action in response. A legal complaint will be filed soon, and the process has already been initiated,” affirmed Suraj Mandhare, State Education Commissioner.
