Pune: “Behind the Woods”: Discovery of a Unique Folk Culture

Pune, 13th October 2023: Kalinga Kala Kendra Trust, in collaboration with the Department of Culture (Language, Literature Dept.) of the Government of Odisha, is set to present “Behind the Woods” on October 14th at Lokshahir Anna Bhau Sathe Rangmandir, Yerawada, starting at 4 pm. The event, organized by Dr. Mamata Mishra, Founder President and international artist, aims to showcase unique folk culture through various performances.

The event is being arranged by Dr. Mamata Mishra, Founder President and international artist, along with her team. They are collaborating with the Department of Culture (Language, Literature Dept.) of the Government of Odisha.

The program will feature a folk song performance by Smt. Anindita Das, a playback singer, international performer, and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee. Folk dance forms from Odisha, such as the Chau dance of Mayurbhanj and Bagha Nritya (Tiger dance) from Ganjam, will also be showcased.

Folk songs from West Bengal, including Bhatiali, Gombhira, Bhawaiya, Jumur, and Bowl—a devotional folk song—will be performed by Pipal Ray, Sagarika Das, Ipsita Mohanty, and Ipsa Mohapatra.

Other attractions include classical dance performances by Archana Basu in Odissi, Paulomi Chatterjee in Gaudiya, Anwesha Singh in Uday Sankar Style, and Sayani Nanda in Kathak.

Karuna Patil, Founder of Ruturanga Cultural Group, will present the traditions and folk dances of Maharashtra. Local artists will showcase popular Marathi festivals through beautifully choreographed dances based on Ashadi Ekadashi, Shravan, Bhadrapada, and Ghat Sthapana (Navratri). A tribal group from Dahanu, Maharashtra, will perform the famous Tarapa Dance.

The program will be anchored by Odisha-based RJ Swati.
