Pune: Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge Breaks Silence on Massive Anti-Encroachment Drive in Chikhali-Kudalwadi
Bhosari, 19th February 2025: Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge has, for the first time, clearly stated his position on the recent anti-encroachment drive in the Chikhali-Kudalwadi area, which falls under his constituency. The operation, described as the largest anti-encroachment drive in India, was conducted by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) from 8th to 17th February.
Landge revealed that the operation resulted in the removal of 4,111 encroachments, covering an area of approximately 827 acres. This action freed up 100 acres of PCMC land intended for roads and reservations.
The MLA explained that the drive aimed to address several issues, including pollution of the Indrayani River, air and noise pollution, illegal businesses, rising crime rates, and fire incidents. He expressed gratitude to Maharashtra Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis for supporting the municipal and police administrations in this effort.
However, Landge also highlighted concerns about the impact on 559 small entrepreneurs and 103 local residents who suffered losses due to the indiscriminate nature of the operation. He stated that he would not support this aspect of the drive and plans to seek redress from the PCMC administration and Maharashtra State Government.
Landge clarified that he had refrained from making public statements during the operation due to concerns about potential law and order issues or religious tensions. This agreement was reached during an administrative meeting to avoid inflaming the situation through social media or public statements.
The MLA reiterated his consistent stance on taking action against unauthorized scrap dealers, illegal businesses, and industries causing pollution to the Indrayani River in the Kudalwadi-Chikhali area. He emphasized that this position has been maintained throughout.
