Hadapsar, 14th May 2026: A CCTV camera has captured the image of a suspect allegedly involved in placing a bomb-like object at Ushakiran Hospital in Pune’s Hadapsar area, as multiple security agencies intensified their investigation into the incident.

According to police sources, the suspect was seen arriving on an Ola Electric two-wheeler before allegedly keeping the suspicious object inside the hospital premises. The footage is now being examined by investigators as part of the ongoing probe.

The incident triggered a major security scare on Wednesday evening after a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was found at Ushakiran Hospital in Kamdhenu Estate, Hadapsar. The bomb-like object was later safely defused by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), preventing any untoward incident.

Confirming the development, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said, “In the preliminary investigation, it prima facie appears to be a bomb-like, low-grade explosive IED. Upon receiving the information, our BDDS and police teams immediately relocated the device to an open area at the Gliding Centre and safely defused it.”

He praised the prompt response of the BDDS team and said the situation was handled professionally and without panic.

A high-level investigation has now been launched on a “war footing.” Joint teams from Pune City Police, the Crime Branch, and the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) are probing the case. Investigators are also scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas to trace the suspect’s movements and establish the motive behind the act.

Police officials said the investigation remains at a preliminary stage, and more details will be shared after further verification.

Dr Vilas Gaikwad, Director of Ushakiran Hospital, said the suspicious object was noticed around 7 pm on Wednesday by a hospital staff member.

“A staff member informed me about the object found in the corner of a bathroom on the first floor. I removed the box and placed it in an open area before informing the police. Soon after, the BDDS team arrived and took custody of the object,” he said.

When asked why he personally shifted the object despite the possible risk, Dr Gaikwad said, “I removed it so that there is minimal damage.”
