Pune, 21st March 2026: A bomb threat email caused panic and briefly disrupted operations at the Passport Office in Baner, but a thorough search later confirmed that no explosives were present, police said.
Following a complaint by passport office authorities, the Pune Police registered a case against an unidentified individual under provisions of the Information Technology Act.
According to officials, the email, allegedly sent by Saurabh Biswas, claimed that 19 bombs containing cyanide gas had been planted inside the office and warned of a possible explosion on Friday.
Acting immediately, bomb detection and disposal teams conducted a detailed search of the entire premises, but no suspicious or explosive material was found.
The incident led to a temporary halt in operations for nearly an hour, causing concern among staff and visitors.
Senior officers, including Assistant Commissioner of Police Vitthal Dabade and Senior Police Inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant, visited the site to assess the situation.
