Pune: Committed Towards Transforming COEP Tech University to World-Class Institution – Dr Sunil Bhirud

Pune, February 13, 2024: “The Board of Governance (BOG) of the COEP Tech University has formulated a time-bound strategic plan in line with our commitment towards transforming the University into a World Class Institute. We stand together to realize this vision,” said Dr. Sunil Bhirud, the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of COEP Tech University, while speaking at the Press Conference held at COEP, Pune today. Dr. Pramod Chaudhari, Chairman of the BOG, COEP Tech University introduced Dr. Sunil Bhirud to the Press. Dr. D N Sonawane, Registrar, COEP Tech University and Dr. Ravindra Utgikar, Advisor BOG, COEP Tech University, were present on the occasion.

Speaking to the reporters Dr. Pramod Chaudhari said, “Dr Bhirud’s extensive and rich experience of working with esteemed institutions like VJTI, Mumbai University, and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will prove to be beneficial for implementing the future plans of COEP Tech University, and we will extend full support to him.”

“COEP Tech University has an alumni base of more than 45,000 alumni working across the globe. Many of them are keen to actively participate in the institution’s progression to the next level. US-based alumni like Narendra Kale, Ashish Achlerkar, and Rohan Kelkar among others have time and again expressed willingness to extend significant support to the University. Apart from developing various facilities at the University, we are also exploring other aspects with the alumni including the transfer of knowledge for the students, raising grants for their research, and seeking internship opportunities to gain industry experience,” Dr Chaudhari added.

KPMG, a world-class consulting organization, based on primary and secondary research of the COEP Tech University has submitted a diagnostics report along with recommendations for transformation. Based on this report certain areas have been prioritized for implementation. This includes enriching the experience of the students @ COEP, developing a multidisciplinary approach, and improving the necessary infrastructure facilities for imparting high-quality engineering education. Emphasis will also be on leveraging collaborations with industry partners that will benefit students, promote entrepreneurship development, innovation, and research, and harness digital technology in the university curriculum, informed Dr. Chaudhari.

Dr Chaudhari expressed satisfaction with the funded projects received by the University in the last few days. Some of the projects received are significant to nation-building.

Elaborating on the progress of the partnership with Gokhale Institute of Political Science and Economics, Dr. Bhirud said, “Under this partnership, Professors of Gokhale Institute of Political Science and Economics are conducting Engineering Economics classes in COEP Tech University. A total of 179 students from different streams of engineering have enrolled for the same. This includes 82 students from Computer Engineering, 31 from Electrical Engineering, 48 from Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering and 18 from the Instrumentation & Control Engineering department. Understanding the importance of the subject, students have responded positively for this course.”

Affirming that the university is taking a progressive step forward in the field of public policy while implementing the new education policy. Dr. Chaudhari said, “To prevent the misuse of artificial intelligence in the future it is important to impart knowledge about public policy to the students of engineering. To serve this purpose, we are signing an MoU with the city-based Flame University. Under this MoU experts from Flame University will teach subjects related to public policies to COEP Tech engineering students. On the other hand, expert faculty from COEP will impart the knowledge of latest technology, e.g. AI & ML to the students of Flame University.”
