Pune : Courier Company’s Employees Held For Replacing Mobile Phones With Soap And Tiles In Parcels, Major Racket Busted

Pune 30th August 2023: The Anti Extortion Cell of Pune City Police’s Crime Branch has busted a major racket involving delivery executives of a company for allegedly duping consumers by replacing their parcels with soaps and tiles. The crime branch officials had received several complaints from the Hadapsar area about receiving soap, non-functional mobile phones or tiles in place of their mobile phones ordered using online shopping websites.

After noticing a trend of complaints, the crime branch team had started parallel investigation into the matter. The case was registered at Hadapsar Police Station according to which a mobile shop owner had alleged that a total of 31 mobile phones worth Rs 7,29, 319 ordered by customers online from his shop were replaced by the accused with soaps, tiles or non-functional used mobile phones.

The Crime Branch team following inputs apprehended four accused identified as Moeen Mohammad Halim Sayyed (30), Akash Rajkumar Nikam (32), Ranjeetkumar Rajgeer Mandal (25) and Tukaram Krishna Chaugule (30). The police team managed to recover 19 mobile phones worth Rs 4,51,043 from their possession.

The police said that the accused were working with a reputed courier firm in Pune on various occasions as scanners, delivery boys and drivers of the delivery vehicle. They were replacing the mobile phones during the delivery process and were duping the mobile shop owners. The accused have been sent to police custody and the police are investigating further in the matter, said officials.
