Pune: Cyber Thieves Defraud Bharti Sahakari Bank of Rs 1 Crore Using Fake Debit Cards

Pune, 28th July 2023: A major financial crime has been uncovered as cyber thieves orchestrated a fraudulent scheme, resulting in a loss of Rs 1 crore from Bharti Sahakari Bank. The thieves operated by using counterfeit debit cards at multiple ATM centers in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Sangli, Solapur, and Kolhapur.

Sarjerao Jagannath Patil, the 62-year-old executive director of Bharti Sahakari Bank Limited, lodged a complaint at the Vishrambag police station. The criminal activity spanned from December 2020 to 2021, during which the cyber thieves created cloned fake debit cards from various locations, including Sadashiv Peth, Dhankawadi, Dhanori, Akurdi, Kothrud, Baner, Hadapsar, Navi Mumbai, Solapur, Kolhapur, Sangli, Islampur, and Worli in Mumbai, as well as ATM centers in Delhi.

A staggering amount of one crore eight lakh fifteen thousand seven hundred was fraudulently withdrawn from Bharti Sahakari Bank accounts. The investigation revealed that the cyber thieves utilized 439 fake debit cards to carry out the sophisticated scam.

A total of 1247 transactions were executed using the forged ATM cards. Police Sub-Inspector Varure is heading the investigation into the matter.
