Pune, June 25, 2020: Pune has been upgraded to three-star rating in a recent Garbage-Free City Rating conducted by the Swachh Sarvekshan League 2020.

The city was inspected under the parameters like ward level parameter of sweeping of public areas, commercial and residential areas, city-level parameters like water bodies and stormwater drains, and desirable parameters of sustainability.

“The League was organised by the Central Government, and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) fulfilled all the necessary aspects,” Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol said in a press statement.

“In the last whole year, the PMC has been working hard to maintain all the parameters under the Swachh Sarvekshan. A few months ago, the city had been awarded Open Defecation Free++ (ODF++) rating.

“The result had been declared on May 19, 2020, and the Central Government had asked us to re-evaluate the situation and upload a report on the same. Likewise, we uploaded photographs and documents, after which, the result was declared on June 24,” Mohol added.

However, while the garbage generation in the city as well as littering of the road had reduced in the city during lockdown, since unlock 1 has begun, littering on the roads, riverside has been observed to have started in the city again.
