Pune District: Heavy Rains Damage Crops, About 10,000 Farmers Affected

Pune, 3rd August 2021: Ten thousand farmers have been affected due to heavy rains in the Pune district. The administration has sent a proposal of assistance of Rs 70 crore to the Maharashtra state government for the repair of collapsed houses and bad conditions of roads.

The district administration has prepared a report on the damage caused by heavy rains. Preliminary estimates put the loss at Rs 70 crore. A proposal has been made to help the concerned citizens.

Resident Deputy Collector Dr Jayashree Katare said, “Ten thousand farmers in the district have been affected by the heavy rains. Crops on an area of ​​3183 hectares have been damaged. 318 houses have been damaged. Many roads in the district are also in disrepair. A preliminary report of this loss has been made. Accordingly, a proposal of Rs 70 crore has been prepared and sent to the state government.”

Meanwhile, seven state highways and 16 district highways in the district are in dire straits. Huge funds will be required to repair these roads. A proposal in this regard will also be sent to the state government, Dr Katare said.

So far, four people have died due to heavy rains in the district. It has one resident each from the villages of Ambawade and Balwadi in Bhor taluka and Shirdhe in Maval taluka. A young man from Kanjale village in Bhor is missing. So far, 420 villages have been affected due to heavy rains. 400 citizens from 98 families of Maval, Mulshi and Bhor talukas have been evacuated, added Dr Katare.
