Pune: Eminent Historian Babasaheb Purandare Passes Away

Pune, 15th November 2021: Eminent historian ‘Shivshahir’ Babasaheb Purandare (100) passed away today morning while undergoing treatment at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune. Yesterday, he was placed on a ventilator. 

As per the statement issued by the hospital, Purandare died at 5.07 am today. His last rites will be performed at Vaikunth Crematorium in Navi Peth at 10 am today. 

Purandare had not been feeling well for the last few days. He was admitted to the hospital for treatment of pneumonia and old age ailments. His condition remained critical for the last three days.  

Stopped going to public events

A few months ago, Babasaheb Purandare turned 100 years old. He had participated in two-three programs organized at that time. He later did not attend any public events except for two. He did not even attend the Shastra Pujan program. This was the first time he had not attended the event.

Who is Babasaheb Purandare?

Babasaheb Purandare was born on July 29, 1922, in Pune. At the age of 17, he wrote stories on Shivaji Maharaj. These things came out in the form of a book called ‘Spark’. After this, he wrote a book called ‘Kesari’ on ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’ and ‘Narayan Rao Peshwa’. Apart from this, the play ‘Janata Raja’ written by Purandare has also become very famous in Maharashtra. The play has also been translated into Hindi. The Fadnavis government had given the Maharashtra Bhushan award to Babasaheb Purandare.
