Pune: Fire Breaks Out in Viman Nagar Residential Complex Near Giga Space; Efforts Underway to Douse Blaze
Viman Nagar, 8th May 2024: A prompt and efficient response from the Pune Fire Brigade averted a potentially disastrous situation as they swiftly tackled a raging fire reported at the Nyati Empress building near Giga Space, Viman Nagar in Pune. Upon receiving the distress call at 4.55 pm, a water tanker, a tall ladder vehicle (Bronto), and a vehicle from the PMRDA fire brigade were dispatched from Naidu, Hadapsar, and headquarters respectively.
Upon arrival, firefighters were met with a daunting sight – a massive fire engulfing an office on the sixth floor of the commercial nine-story building. Realizing the gravity of the situation, the firefighters wasted no time in evacuating the occupants of the building and surrounding areas to safety before initiating firefighting operations. By 06:10 PM, the blaze was brought under control, mitigating any further threat.
The firefighting team diligently conducted cooling operations to prevent the fire from spreading to other floors or adjacent structures. Their efforts were aided by the presence of permanent fire extinguishers within the building. Additionally, an exhaust blower was utilized to disperse the smoke, while the tall ladder vehicle (Bronto) facilitated direct water application to the fire site on the sixth floor.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire originated during furniture work in the office. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or casualties as a result of the incident. A commendable total of 30 officers and firefighters actively participated in extinguishing the blaze.
Commenting on the incident, Devendra Potphode, Chief Fire Officer, Pune, emphasized the importance of fire safety measures, urging citizens to keep at least one fire extinguisher handy when engaging in activities prone to ignition risks, such as woodworking.
