Pimpri Chinchwad, 10th October 2024: A food poisoning incident at Dr. D.Y. Patil English Medium School in Shahu Nagar has led to several students being hospitalized. The students reportedly fell ill after consuming sandwiches served during a food session at the school earlier today.
The sandwiches, made of bread and chutney, are suspected to have caused the food poisoning. Some students’ conditions became serious, requiring immediate hospitalization at a private medical facility for treatment.
According to initial reports, around 400 primary section students ate the sandwiches. Shortly after, many began to experience symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, and dizziness. Parents have alleged that the students became sick due to the poor quality of the food served.
The school administration has since apologized for the incident, assuring that strict action will be taken against those responsible for serving substandard food. Upon learning of the situation, concerned parents rushed to the school. Some of the more severely affected students were transported to the hospital by ambulance.
The incident is being investigated by the MIDC Bhosari Police Station, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate (PCPC). Senior Police Inspector Ganesh Jamdar, in charge of the station, told Punekar News, “Around 30 students have experienced food poisoning. We have recorded their statements. Food inspectors are currently conducting an investigation, and further action will be taken based on their report.”
Dr. Dhananjay Patil, who is overseeing treatment at the private hospital, told the media, “Eighteen students have been admitted to our hospital. All of them are experiencing stomach pain, vomiting, and dizziness. Six of them are currently on saline and under observation. Their condition is stable, and they are receiving the necessary treatment for food poisoning.”
Abhay Kotkar, president of Dr. D.Y. Patil English Medium School, addressed the incident, stating, “Around 400 students were served sandwiches, and many fell ill after eating them. The ingredients of the sandwiches, including bread and tomatoes, have been sent to a lab for testing. We will take action against those responsible for this, and I sincerely apologize to the parents as the President of the school.”
