Shivajinagar, 21 March 2024: Last week, students from Dr. D.Y. Patil University’s School of Law, located in Ambi, Talegaon, embarked on an educational excursion to the District and Sessions Court, as well as the Family Court in Pune.

The visit, authorized by the Registrar of the District and Sessions Court, commenced with an informative session led by Advocate Mangesh Kharabe, a practicing lawyer at the District and Sessions Court. Kharabe provided an overview of the court’s structure and its various rooms, along with insights into the hierarchy of the criminal court system.

Divided into groups, the students had the opportunity to witness live proceedings in different courtrooms, gaining firsthand exposure to both civil and criminal cases. Kharabe emphasized the importance of studying case laws to grasp the rationale behind judicial decisions, offering valuable insights into the intricacies of legal proceedings.

The visit aimed to enhance the students’ legal literacy by providing a practical understanding of court processes. It underscored the significance of accessible justice and familiarized students with the workings of the Magistrate Court, Sessions Court, and Family Court.

Accompanied by Legal Coordinator Adv. Mangesh Kharabe, Prof. Dr. Rohan Das (Principal in-Charge of the College), Asst. Prof. Mayuri Pharande, and Prof. N. Anjali, the students received firsthand guidance throughout the visit.

For law students, witnessing court proceedings in person offers a unique perspective that complements traditional classroom learning. Observing legal principles in action helps contextualize theoretical knowledge, bridging the gap between academia and real-world application.

The study visit, organized under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Sayalee Gankar (Vice Chancellor, D.Y. Patil University, Ambi), Prof. Rohan Das (Principal, School of Law), Asst. Prof. Mayuri Pharande, Prof. N. Anjali, and Legal Consultant Adv. Mangesh Kharabe, served as an enriching experience for the aspiring legal professionals.
