Pune, 9th July 2021: The Maharashtra state government has provided an online facility for lease registration. However, there have been cases of fake online leases. To prevent the misuse of the facility, training is being provided to government officials to identify the fake online leases.
In Maharashtra, lease agreements on stamps of Rs 100, Rs 500, or Rs 1,000 have already been canceled. Now, only leases registered with the Registration and Stamp Duty Department are considered legal. This facility has also been made available online. However, some citizens have been taking advantage of this to make fake online leases. The Department of Registration and Stamp Duty does not have any record of such agreements. Against this backdrop, government office workers will be trained to identify fake online leases.
A few days back, in Borivali, a vehicle was bought with the help of a fake lease agreement. After that, Deputy Inspector General of Registration, Govind Karad, issued orders to all co-district registrars and government employees in the state. It will now be possible to curb the purchase of vehicles through fake online rental agreements.
Sachin Shingvi, President of the Real Estate Agents Association said, “The association has been lodging complaints with the Inspector General of Registration for the last one year regarding fake leases. Fake lease agreements are being used for bank account opening, vehicle purchase, ration card, Aadhar card, and other government office residency proof. A few days back, a complaint was lodged with the Viman Nagar Police Station against the purchase of a vehicle at a false address by forging a lease. A complaint was also lodged in Borivali in Mumbai and action was taken against the culprits as per the court order”
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Registration Shravan Hardikar has directed the concerned Joint District Registrar to submit a report regarding fake leases in their district. A meeting will be held with Transport Officers, Food and Supplies Department, Revenue Department, Municipal Corporation, Nagarpalika, Nagar Panchayat, and Banks officials In this regard.
Send a copy of the lease agreement
The Department of Registration and Stamp Duty has appealed to the government offices not to accept online lease documents as proof of lease agreement and to send a copy of the lease agreement to the District Registrar’s Office.
