Pune: Haji Zakir Shaikh Appointed Secretary Of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee

Yerwada, 6th September 2021: Social worker Dr Haji Zakir Shaikh (40), a resident of Yerwada, has been appointed as a secretary of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).

All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary KC Venugopal made the announcement at a press conference recently.

Dr Zakir said that he will work to strengthen the Congress party at the grassroots level.

With a PhD in environmental science, Dr Zakir has worked as Pune Municipal Corporation’s tree authority committee member for six years. He was instrumental in checking illegal tree cutting, filing cases against concerned persons and conducting enquiry against errant government officers.

Dr Zakir is well known for social work and has been awarded many times. During the Covid pandemic, he distributed ration kits, sanitiser, masks to the needy from his funds. He had also distributed dates during Ramzan month and dry fruits and shirkhurma kits for Eid.

Dr Zakir, who was earlier with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), had joined Congress in 2018 along with senior leader and ex-central minister Tariq Anwar and former Maharashtra Minority Commission chairman Hakim Munaf. Now he has been appointed as an MPCC member.

He is also a Global peace ambassador as well as a board member of Universal Peace Friendship And Brotherhood (UPFB). He is the chairman of E-waste and International environment at Indo Global Chamber of Commerce Industries and Agriculture.
