Kothrud, March 26, 2021: After Bengaluru, Pune is known as a garden city of the country. A total of 202 parks have been developed in the city till now and the work of 10 more parks is still underway.

Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park, Rose Garden, Podium Garden, Mughal Garden, Pu La Deshpande Udyan, Butterfly Udyan, Kalagram Energy Park, Nala Garden, Nakshatra Udyan, and Paryavaran Udyan are not only popular attractions in the State but also across the country.

A small project to educate and make people aware of the importance of the environment and forests is being initiated at Balasaheb Thackeray Park in Dahanukar Colony located in the western part of the city. The ‘talking trees’ concept is the first part of the project.

Amid 100 trees, three ‘talking trees’ will be gently illuminated. These trees will show the different seasons of the forests and their beauty.

At the same time, the talking trees will explain the importance of the environment in an interesting way that children and adults both will understand and find interesting.

The entire show will be short and will start and end automatically within a few minutes whenever tourists or park lovers gather several times in the evening.

A state-of-the-art automated system will be used for the talking trees concept. It will use different lights, media, and projections in a very efficient manner to create a delightful and informative show for visitors.

The main objective of the project is to create awareness about tree conservation by informing the children as well as the elders about the environment.

The talking tree concept will require heavy cabling and programming without affecting the trees at the park. For all this, funds were allocated in the Budget 2019-2020 by the municipal commissioner. It was decided to develop the Balasaheb Thackeray Park in Dahanukar Colony of Kothrud park based on the ‘talking trees’ concept.

A similar concept has been implemented in the village of Pitlochry in England for the last 20 years. Every year around 3 million tourists from all over the globe visit the place in the United Kingdom to see it.

Inspired by it, a slightly similar programme was successfully started at the Botanical Gardens in Nashik in the last four years which was highly appreciated by Ratan Tata.

The total cost of the work includes:

– Creating shows for environmental awareness: Creating working concepts and models by studying various books on the internet and various mediums.

– Script creation: This involves writing a four-minute script and mapping the projection.

– Media creation: Auditions for character selection, character modeling, makeup for shooting, composing lyrics and background music, studio recording, and sound dubbing for characters.

– Providing and installing three projectors for the show.

– Providing sound system: Installing AV processor speaker, surround speaker, sub hoser amplifier, and sound table power cable.
