Pune: Hinjawadi Hit-and-Run: Water Tanker Driver Involved in Fatal Collision at Marunji Chowk

Hinjawadi, 26th April 2024: A hit-and-run case has surfaced in the Hinjawadi area, where a water tank driver collided with a man riding a two-wheeler, resulting in the latter’s demise. The incident occurred at Marunji Chowk on April 12th, 2024, around 1:30 PM.

Bapu Rama Dagde, aged 38 and a resident of Thergaon, has filed a complaint with the Hinjawadi Police Station. The police have registered a case against the unknown water tanker driver. The deceased has been identified as Subhash Rama Dagde, aged 36 and also a resident of Thergaon.

Based on the police report, the complainant’s younger brother, Subhash, was riding his two-wheeler towards Dattawadi when, at Marunji Chowk, a speeding water tanker approached from the opposite direction. The tanker driver was operating the vehicle recklessly, disregarding traffic regulations. Consequently, the tanker collided with the two-wheeler, inflicting serious injuries upon the rider. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the rider succumbed to the injuries. The water tanker driver did not stop after the accident.

In response, the Hinjawadi Police have registered a case against the unidentified driver under the Indian Penal Code sections 304 (A) (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving or riding in a public way), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. Assistant Police Inspector Dhumal from the Hinjawadi Police Station is investigating further.
