Pune, 22nd May 2024: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast increasing daytime temperatures and hot weather conditions across most parts of Maharashtra in the coming days.

According to the IMD’s district-level forecast, several areas in the Konkan region are expected to experience hot and humid conditions, while heatwave conditions are predicted for some other districts.

“There is no heatwave forecast for Pune as of now, but day temperatures are expected to rise in the coming days based on current indications. If there is a chance of a heatwave in Pune, we will notify accordingly,” said an IMD official.

The official attributed the surge in temperatures to the cessation of thunderstorm and rainfall activity, leading to mainly clear skies expected within a day or two across the state.

The heat has already started taking a toll, with Pune city recording high day temperatures on Tuesday. Shivajinagar touched 40.6°C, Wadgaonsheri 42.7°C, Koregaon Park 42.3°C, Pashan 41.8°C, and Lohegaon 40°C.

Residents have been advised to take necessary precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours to cope with the sweltering heat.
