Alandi, 22nd November 2023: In response to the alarming pollution levels in the Indrayani River, social organizations, particularly the Human Rights Protection Organization, have taken a proactive stance. A silent protest was organized, with participants going into the Indrayani River adorned with black bands over their faces. This symbolic act aimed to draw attention to the severe pollution issue and to call for criminal action against establishments responsible for releasing chemical-laden water into the river.

Expressing concern over the detrimental impact on the health of workers and the well-being of pilgrims who visit Alandi to witness Mauli’s Sanjeevan Samadhi, the Human Rights Protection Organization accused certain establishments in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area of discharging untreated chemical water into the Indrayani River, causing extensive pollution.

The significance of the Indrayani River in attracting pilgrims from various parts of Maharashtra, who traditionally bathe in its holy waters, adds urgency to the need for addressing the pollution crisis. The organization contends that the current condition of the river is dire, and its very essence is under threat due to the pollution.

The silent protest serves as a collective plea to awaken the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and Alandi Municipal Council to the severity of the issue. The organizations are not only advocating for immediate measures to curb pollution but are also demanding criminal action against those responsible for releasing chemical-laden water into the sacred Indrayani River. This reflects the broader concern that the government’s inaction is perceived as compromising the sentiments of devotees, while also jeopardizing the health of workers affected by the pollution.
