Pune International Centre Event On Mahatma Gandhi’s Portrayal In Indian Cinema

Pune, 28th September 2023: On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 154th birth anniversary, Pune International Centre (PIC) is organising a discussion on the cinematic biography, The Mahatma On Celluloid by  Prakash Magdum, former Director, National Film Archive of India (NFAI). Rare film clips will also be screened. 

The event will be held at the Navalmal Firodia Auditorium, Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute, ILS Law College Road, Shivajinagar, Pune, on Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 5 PM to 6.30 PM (IST)

In conversation with Mr. Magdum will be Dr. Milind Damle, Faculty and HoD (TV), Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).  

Magdum’s The Mahatma on Celluloid explores little known facts about the newsreels, documentaries and films made on Mahatma Gandhi. The extensively researched volume includes excerpts and anecdotes from interviews with filmmakers like Rajkumar Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Naseeruddin Shah, Jahnu Barua, Feroz Abbas Khan and Girish Kasarvalli. With stills and posters from a range of films, the book offers a visual delight to lay people, film buffs and scholars alike.

Registration and tea will begin at 4.30PM. 

The event is Free and Open to all.
