Pune, 18th March 2026: A growing number of engineering graduates in Pune are facing uncertainty after receiving campus placement offers from leading IT companies but not being onboarded even months later, amid a slowdown in the sector.

Traditionally, campus placements by top IT firms are seen as a major milestone for students, with colleges widely publicising lucrative offers secured by their graduates. However, recent developments indicate a worrying trend in which companies are delaying or withholding joining dates despite issuing offer letters.

According to the Forum for IT Employees, complaints regarding delayed onboarding have been rising steadily. The organisation claims it receives daily representations from affected candidates. In one such case, several computer engineering graduates selected through campus placements in March 2025 by a leading IT company operating in Hinjawadi IT Park are still awaiting clarity on their joining status.

As per the forum, these students had successfully cleared the recruitment process and were issued formal offer letters. However, nearly a year has passed without any concrete communication from the company regarding their induction. Repeated attempts by candidates to seek updates have reportedly yielded no clear response.

The delay has placed many fresh graduates in a difficult position. Several students had declined other job opportunities after securing campus offers, while some postponed plans for higher education. As a result, many now feel their careers have been stalled for nearly a year.

The situation has also led to financial and emotional stress for several families. The Forum for IT Employees has expressed strong concern, stating that companies have a moral responsibility to honour commitments made during campus recruitment. Keeping young engineers in prolonged uncertainty, it said, is deeply troubling.

The forum has urged the company to issue an immediate clarification and announce a timeline for onboarding the selected candidates. It has also called for appropriate relief measures for those affected by the delay.

Experts point out that while the IT sector has been witnessing hiring slowdowns, project uncertainties, and the impact of global economic conditions, companies must maintain transparency in their recruitment processes. Failure to do so, they warn, could erode trust among aspiring engineers and affect the credibility of campus placement systems.
