Pune: Jodhpur-Hadapsar Express Takes 7 KM Wrong Turn
Reported by Amit Singh
Pune, 15th September 2025: A major lapse of Western Railway came to light on Friday (12 September 2025) when Jodhpur-Hadapsar Superfast Express (20495) was mistakenly diverted towards Jalgaon instead of its scheduled route after departing from Surat. The train traveled about seven kilometers in the wrong direction before being brought back on track following passengers’ complaints.
According to sources, the train departed from Surat on Friday morning and was scheduled to enter the Mumbai-Vasai route via Udhna Junction before proceeding towards Pune. However, due to a wrong signal near Udhna station, the train was diverted onto the Jalgaon route. Passengers noticed the change in direction and alerted railway officials. After checks, it was confirmed that the train had gone off its designated route, following which it was stopped, brought back, and resumed its journey on the correct track.
Western Railway has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident. Officials confirmed that the matter is being investigated to determine how the signaling error occurred and what actions were taken by the guard and staff on duty. The railway administration stated that corrective steps would be implemented to prevent recurrence of such errors.
A Punekar News investigation revealed that the incident was linked to a misinterpretation of a Central Railway notification. Karjat yard remodeling work is scheduled to begin on 12 October 2025. The Central Railway had issued a notification to concerned officials regarding diversions effective from 12/10/2025. However, operations staff reportedly interpreted the date as 12/09/2025 and informed departments accordingly, leading to the diversion of the train from Udhna towards Jalgaon.
