Pune, 15th September 2025: Heavy overnight rainfall, accompanied by intense lightning and thunder, disrupted flight operations at Pune Airport between midnight and 8 am on Monday.

Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhoke confirmed that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an Orange Alert for the city following the severe weather conditions.

During the eight-hour disruption, 14 flights were diverted to other airports, while three flights later returned and landed safely in Pune. The diversions mainly involved flights bound for or departing from Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi, Nagpur, and other cities.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) extended crucial support by allowing civilian flight movements during military block hours, as per the NOTAM, helping restore normalcy. By Monday morning, the intensity of rainfall had decreased, and flight operations gradually resumed.

Dhoke said, “The entire airport team, including AAI, CISF, airlines, and all stakeholders, worked tirelessly to ensure seamless facilitation for passengers. Additional seating, drinking water, tea, coffee, and food arrangements were provided to ensure passenger comfort.”
