Pune: Katraj Flyover Delay Continues Amid Land Handover Hurdles

Katraj, 18th June 2025: The much-anticipated Katraj flyover, aimed at decongesting traffic at one of Pune’s busiest junctions, is facing yet another deadline extension. Initially launched with much fanfare on September 24, 2021, the ₹169.15 crore project was slated for completion by February 2024. However, after missing two earlier deadlines, the latest revised target—December 2025—also appears increasingly unrealistic.
According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the delay is primarily due to stalled land acquisition near Rajsa Society Chowk. Of the 11 plots required to complete the critical landing section of the flyover, only 7 have been acquired so far. Despite the Municipal Corporation’s Property Department completing land measurements, the handover has been delayed by protests from revenue department surveyors. The Land Acquisition Department has now been assigned responsibility for completing the process.
Out of the 19 spans planned, only 10 have been completed. While the structurally complex Katraj Chowk section is complete, the remaining work is stalled due to unresolved land issues. NHAI officials noted that had the plots been handed over by early June, the project could have been completed within six months.
